Street photography requires one to not only move, but to be patient. Which, can create a dichotomous conflict — what to do — move because nothing of interest is occurring, or sit and be patient anticipating activities in the area are such that an opportunity may present itself. Such was this particular day. Walking around was producing little. Went to a couple of presentations at museums seeking something of interest, took some photographs; but, those are probably not of any interest other than personal archivals of places visited; personal memories. Continuing to walk about was not producing anything other than some sore feet and frustration.

While walking through a park, I found some concrete benches, which surrounded a fountain. I decided that instead of wading the circulating human rivers of the streets in search of suitable opportunities, I would sit and watch the masses mill around and hope for better luck. I sat and watched as a group of teenagers took over one particular fountain, climbed on the statues, chased each other, splashed, and while interesting, produced nothing of note or photographic impact. So, what to do…wait and see what else presents, or walk up-stream? Walk up-stream it was finding another fountain. This particular fountain, at first was uninteresting except for one small boy who was fascinated with the water being ejected from its ports. I watched for a while, and noticed that he was staying at one particular point, ignoring all other spurts of water. Occasionally, water would be produced from specific, vertical jets — mostly the time the jets of wear were angled inward. I was fortunate enough to catch him as he turned and a vertical geyser almost soaked him in the face. So surprised was he that he jumped back from the gusher.

Walking around the streets looking for subjects of interest to photograph can be frustrating — sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don’t.
