There are sites that have been shot to death by camera. This is one of those sites — imaged with everything from iPhones to large format cameras — but, if you have ever been to Peggy’s Cove, the light is irresistible. This is one of the quintessential sites of Nova Scotia. Sitting on a stark point of granite, it guards and marks the eastern entrance to St. Margarets Bay. I had to go out and shoot the light. The first morning’s attempt was fraught with rain, which proved impossible to keep the lens clear. That afternoon, perfect clouds and few people. The village of Peggy’s Cove is still an active fishing village — very small; something around 50-60 year-round residents.
Impending Storm
From my office vantage point on the 25th floor, I have a pretty good view of incoming storms. This one was unique in that it began to exhibit what appears to be a funnel. Whether or not there was rotation in the clouds remains unknown, but the coming storm was darned impressive.
