Minstrels

Dave_Boucher - Minstrels (Matted)

After spending a few hours inside Notre Dame du Paris, we had decided to walk back to the Le Quartier – Latin where we were staying for dinner — a few blocks off the Left Bank and across the Seine. As we began to cross Pont au Double, we came upon this pair playing tradition French music…I believe the song they were playing was La Mer. The accordion is common in traditional French music and initially, combining an accordion with a bass seemed odd, but the music was captivating. We listened for quite a while, never gaining our fill and wanting for more. Other interests nudged us after a while and we continued on to other destinations and dinner, which, as I recall, consisted of a baguette, cheese and wine (cliché I suppose, but when in Rome, or Paris for that matter…) The two musicians were completely absorbed in their music and took little notice of those passing by or stopping to listen only to be captivated and transcended into tranquility by their serenade. My wife thinks the accordion player has an angelic face, who am I to argue — he seems at least to be transformed by the wonderful musical repast.

Miss Peggy’s Cove

Dave_Boucher - Peggy's Cove-2

Pegg’s Cove, Nova Scotia, is generally associated with an iconic Lighthouse that sits lonely and majestic on a granite point as guidance into this precarious cove. While most go to see the Lighthouse and shop for curios and touristic memorabilia at the associated gift shop, few, take the time to explore and absorb the cove and small community. Peggy’s Cove has a year-round population of about 60 or less; some still actively involved in lobstering. The above photograph is indicative of the vessels and old piers of Peggy’s Cove.

I find these creatures fascinating in their fragility and beauty, yet despite this they have the ability to cause severe pain.
